CANMT Trip: Alamogordo

After White Sands we had a short drive (less than 1/2 hour) to Alamogordo. Melodie was so tired that she fell asleep on the way. We left White Sands later than we thought we would, but we tried to make it to the New Mexico Museum of Space History before it closed. We didn't make it. However, in front of the museum there were a bunch of the Air and Space Park which had a bunch of things that Melodie and I had no interest in, but Rocky loves to look at.

Then we went to a couple of pistachio farms. I love showing Mel how are food grows. We've never seen pistachio trees before, so I thought this would be interesting. We went to Pistachio Tree Ranch first. Home to the world's largest pistachio. I love stuff like that. And it was a large pistachio.

We tried several flavored pistachios and were surprised by some of the flavors we liked and looked around the store. We bought some pistachios and showed Mel the pistachio trees.
Our next pistachio farm was Eagle Ranch Pistachios. Here we tried pistachios toffee, cookies, brittle, popcorn and all kinds of goodies. Yum! We really wanted the popcorn, but they didn't have a small size, so we settled for the cookies and chocolate covered toffee.

We asked a lady that worked there where to eat. She recommended two places and added that we needed to have green chiles since that was what New Mexico was known for. We went to Peppers Grill since it was closest. I expected more items on the menu with chiles or peppers, but nope. I did find Green Chile Alfredo Lasagna on the menu and went for it. It was very good. Mel had spaghetti and Rocky had the Santa Fe pasta, which wasn't as exciting as I thought it should have been.
We set up camp (Not in the middle of no where this time. It was a camping ground in the city). We were glad it wasn't quite as windy, but it was still cold. We packed Melodie in blankets, but she still ended up with Rocky. I think she just liked being in his sleeping bag with him. It rained that night. Not too much, but enough that Rocky and I both woke up when it started.
